Elderly customers of the department store have expressed concern that they are not being catered for.
Speaking to a crowd of 2,000 at the Royal Festival Hall, 75-year-old Hilary Roodyn told the M&S AGM that they are "missing a trick" as the clothes sold in the store's fashion department are geared at younger customers and are thus too revealing for elderly women. "Nobody's going to have a bare midriff at our age" she added.
In response to this request, M&S chairman Robert Swannell said: "Next year my dear wife will be passing this age so I will be getting first-hand advice on this topic."
Kate Bostock, executive director for general merchandise, said: "We try very hard to cater for our over-60s ladies. We try all the time but there is plenty of room for improvement."
