I shot this sign in Teton national park on the same day a couple hiked past a similar sign just north of us in Yellowstone canyon area. According to the news reports, the couple saw the grizzly and still kept hiking. The second time they saw the bear, she killed the husband and tossed the wife by her daypack.
Please, take these warnings seriously. Bears are wild animals and you are in their territory. If the park service tells you to avoid an area, it's not worth your life to see if they are wrong.
