NASA's Juno interplanetary satellite launched on 5 August 2011 at 12:25 pm EDT Atop a United Launch Alliance Lockheed Atlas V rocket. It's 5 year journey of 1,740 million miles to Jupiter will orbit the gaseious giant planet 33 times in 2016. The craft's name correlates to Greek and Roman Mythology of its mission to reveal Jupiter's true composition beneath its veil of gases. Juno had already passed the moon in less than 24 hours since launch. It will be the farthest mission for a solar powered satellite to date. The launch is also a glimpse of what is to come for Florida's Space Coast, as the Atlas V is currently the rocket of choice (with Space X's Falcon 9) for future human-rated missions.
