The Melbourne Cup... the 'Race that Stops a Nation!'...

Well... two nations really... Australia where it is run...

And New Zealand which always has a strong tie to the race..

Whether it be NZ bred... NZ trained... or NZ owned horses racing in it...

So there is always a very strong following of the race in NZ too! %-)


The race is always run on the first Tuesday in November.

Mum and I have been to the Melbourne Cup twice.

The first time in 1998 when NZ horses Jezabel and Champagne came 1st and 2nd.

That was SUCH a great race to see and experience live!


These days we just watch the race in the comfort of Mum's home....

I take a half day off work to spend with Mum and we make a bit of a day of it...

With a few fury friends to keep us company and to cheer the horses on with us too!

Ted and Tom of COURSE... but also Bart.. the 'horse' on the far right there!

He's a 'souvineer' that came back from Melbourne with us in 1998...

Named after the famous Melbourne trainer Bart Cummings! %-)


So how did we get on.....?

I'll update you with another pic shortly....

In the meantime.... Ted wanted to do his 'NZ Herald Report'...

To show you the horses in the race.... %-)

I kind of don't have the heart to tell him that you can't actually READ the fine print...

Also.... Don't tell him that I didn't manage to get this shot posted BEFORE the race!!! %-)
